Background

About the Sony VAIO PCG X Series

Sold 1999–2000

Sony VAIO PCG X Series describes the PCG-XG models, with closely related variants sold under similar numbers in other regions, which sat near the top of the VAIO notebook range in 1999 and 2000. These were modular business notebooks: thinner than the all-in-one F series, but with a removable drive bay so that an optical or floppy drive could be fitted as needed. Processors were Intel mobile Pentium II and Pentium III chips, and the upper models had 14.1-inch screens.

The line was superseded in 2001 as the GR and FX ranges arrived. As with any notebook from the turn of the century, batteries, hard drives and screen backlights are the parts most likely to have failed, and spares are limited.
