Background

About the Sony VAIO PCV RX Series

Sold 2000–2003

Sony VAIO PCV RX Series machines are mini-tower desktop PCs sold from about 2000 to 2003, in the years when Sony marketed its desktops as home video and music editing stations. They came with i.LINK ports for digital camcorders, bundled Sony editing software and, on the better later models, DVD-writing drives that were still a novelty. Over its life the range moved from Pentium III to Pentium 4 processors, and some models used AMD Athlon chips.

The RX was followed by the RS and RZ series. These are standard-format desktops, so most parts are replaceable, but the original power supplies and hard drives are well past their expected life and motherboards of this period can suffer from failed capacitors.
