Background

About the Sony VAIO PCV RZ Series

Sold 2002–2004

The Sony VAIO PCV RZ Series was the top tier of Sony's tower desktop PCs between 2002 and 2004. Where the RS covered the mainstream, RZ models were specified for video work: fast Pentium 4 processors, large hard drives, DVD writers that on many models handled both the plus and minus recordable formats, and the Giga Pocket system, which combined a television tuner with software for recording and archiving programmes.

RZ desktops were succeeded by VGC towers once the PCV prefix was dropped. They are roomy and straightforward to work on. Typical faults are those of any twenty-year-old Pentium 4 system: failing power supplies, noisy fans, heat-related instability and worn hard drives.
