Background

About the Sony VAIO PCV RS Series

Sold 2003–2005

The Sony VAIO PCV RS Series is a range of tower desktop computers, not a notebook, sold from 2003 to about 2005. It was the mainstream VAIO home desktop of its time, positioned below the more expensive RZ models, and was built around Intel Pentium 4 processors with DVD-writing drives and Memory Stick and i.LINK connections for cameras and camcorders. Some versions included Sony's Giga Pocket television tuner and recording software.

The PCV prefix was retired soon afterwards and RS machines were replaced by VGC desktops. Being conventional tower PCs they are easier to service than a notebook, but power supplies, capacitors, fans and hard drives of this era are all prone to failing with age.
