Background

About the Sony VAIO VGC JS Series

Sold 2008–2009

Sony VAIO VGC JS Series is an all-in-one desktop, not a notebook. Introduced in the second half of 2008 and updated through 2009 as the JS1 to JS4, it built the whole computer into a 20.1-inch widescreen display with a broad surrounding frame, and it was sold in several colours.

It was the entry point to Sony's all-in-one line, below the larger L family, and used Intel Pentium Dual-Core and Core 2 Duo processors with a built-in webcam and optical drive. In 2010 the 21.5-inch touchscreen VPC J1 took its place. Because everything sits behind the screen, a mechanical hard drive failure or a dust-clogged cooling fan, both common at this age, means opening the whole unit.
