Background

About the Sony VAIO PCG N Series

Sold 1999–2000

Sony VAIO PCG N Series refers to the PCG-N505 family, the 1999 continuation of the slim 505 notebook that had established VAIO's reputation for thin, light, metal-bodied portables. The N505 kept the formula of a 10.4-inch screen in a magnesium alloy case weighing well under one and a half kilograms, with the floppy and CD-ROM drives supplied as external units to keep the body thin.

It was aimed at travelling business users and was sold in several variants through 1999 and 2000 before the SR series took over the 10.4-inch slot. The thin case leaves little room for protection around the screen, and after so many years the original batteries and small hard drives are usually past their working life.
