Background

About the Dell Vostro 1220

Sold 2009–2010

Released on 1 July 2009, the Dell Vostro 1220 succeeded the Vostro 1200 as Dell's 12.1-inch small-business laptop. It moved to Intel's Montevina platform, with Celeron and Core 2 Duo processors and Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, and adopted the squarer black styling of the Vostro 1320, 1520 and 1720 sold beside it.

Dell positioned it for mobile professionals and included security software for drive encryption. It was the last 12-inch Vostro of that design: at the end of 2009 the very thin Vostro V13 appeared, and the 2010 range started at 13.3 inches. Age-related faults are the main issue, chiefly batteries, hard drives and cooling fans clogged with dust.
