Background

About the Apple PowerBook G3 14" M6541

Introduced 1998

Order number M6541 is the top model of the original PowerBook G3 Series: a 292 MHz PowerPC 750 with a 1 MB backside cache, 64 MB of memory, an 8 GB hard drive and the 14.1-inch display. It was introduced on 6 May 1998 and withdrawn on 1 September.

The larger cache and faster system bus of the quicker Wallstreet models came with a heat penalty, and the first generation gained a reputation for running hot, which the revised models of late 1998 largely cured. A 13.3-inch version of the 292 MHz machine was also offered. The Apple PowerBook G3 14" M6541 is otherwise identical in case and expansion to its slower siblings, and like them it supports Mac OS X only as far as 10.2.8.
