Background

About the Apple PowerBook G3 14"

Sold 1998–2001

The Apple PowerBook G3 14" covers the PowerBook G3 models with a 14.1-inch, 1024 by 768 active-matrix display, which was the largest screen in the range and, from September 1998, the standard one. It was fitted to the top Wallstreet models of May 1998, to nearly all of the revised PDQ machines, and to every Bronze Keyboard (Lombard, 1999) and FireWire (Pismo, 2000) PowerBook.

Processor speeds ran from 233 MHz in 1998 to 500 MHz by 2000. The later two generations are thinner and lighter than the Wallstreet and add USB, then FireWire. Common problems today are those of age: dead batteries, failing hard drives, worn hinges and dim fluorescent backlights.
