Background

About the Dell Latitude XFR D630

Sold 2008–2009

The Dell Latitude XFR D630 is the fully rugged laptop derived from the D630, sold in 2008 to military, emergency service and industrial customers. It grew out of an earlier ruggedised conversion of the same machine marketed by Augmentix as the XTG630, and it uses D630 internals inside a heavily armoured, sealed outer case.

Because the electronics are those of a 2007 D630, it inherits that model's Core 2 Duo platform and D-family docking. One fault specific to the rugged D-series machines is documented: the adhesive behind the protective glass over the screen tends to leak on to the display, producing air bubbles. The casing parts are scarce. Dell replaced it in 2009 with the E6400 XFR.
