Background

About the Dell Latitude X200

Sold 2002–2003

The Dell Latitude X200 opened the X line in 2002 as an ultralight business laptop sold alongside the C-family models. It is a 12.1-inch machine from the last generation of mobile Pentium III processors, built to be carried all day, and like most ultraportables of the time it has no internal optical or floppy drive, relying on external units or a docking base.

It was replaced in 2003 by the Pentium M-based X300, which brought far better battery life. As a design of more than twenty years ago, the X200 now presents the usual difficulties: original batteries are exhausted, the hard drive is at the end of its service life, and model-specific external drives and docks are hard to come by.
