About the Dell Latitude V740

Introduced c. 2002

The Dell Latitude V740 was the last and fastest of the value-priced V-series Latitudes, dating from around 2002. It is a Pentium 4 machine built on Intel's 845MZ chipset and uses DDR 266 memory in SODIMM form. It has two memory sockets, but only one is intended for owner upgrades, the other being a factory or service centre job, and the maximum is 512 MB.

It offered Pentium 4 performance under the Latitude name for less than the corporate C640 and C840. The V line ended when the D series arrived in 2003 and the D500 took over the budget role. Pentium 4 laptops run hot, so a dust-free fan and heatsink matter, and the battery and hard drive will be worn.
