Background

About the Dell Latitude XPi

Sold 1995–1996

The Dell Latitude XPi was the Pentium-powered flagship of the early Latitude range in the mid-1990s, following the 486-based Latitude XP with which Dell launched the name in 1994. Versions were identified by processor speed and screen type, so an XPi P133ST is a 133 MHz Pentium with an SVGA active-matrix display. That model is recorded with a NeoMagic video chip, 24 MB of memory and a 1.2 GB hard disk.

The XPi helped re-establish Dell in portable computers after it had withdrawn its earlier laptops in 1993. It was joined by the XPi CD, which added a CD-ROM drive, and the line gave way to the Latitude CP in 1997. Survivors are collectable and need new batteries and careful storage checks.
