Background

About the Dell Latitude XT

Sold 2007–2009

The Dell Latitude XT, launched at the end of 2007, was Dell's first convertible tablet PC. It is a 12.1-inch machine whose screen swivels and folds flat over the keyboard, with a digitiser from N-trig that accepts both a pen and finger touch. It uses ultra-low-voltage Intel Core 2 processors with ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 integrated graphics, and an optical drive is provided through a separate media base.

The touch system is the model's known weak point. Under Windows XP and Vista, other USB devices could stop the N-trig software detecting its hardware, the driver could crash and leave the screen unresponsive to input, and the media base drive often prevented the drivers from loading. The Intel-based XT2 replaced it in 2009.
