About the Dell Latitude LS

Sold 1999–2000

A lightweight travel laptop sold in 1999 and 2000, the Dell Latitude LS was the larger companion to the 11.3-inch LT, with a 12.1-inch active-matrix screen in a magnesium case. In the version announced in December 1999 it used a 400 MHz mobile Pentium III, weighed about 1.6 kg and measured roughly 2.6 cm thick, with 64 MB of memory expandable to 128 MB and a hard drive of 4.8 or 6.4 GB.

A 56K modem and Ethernet were built in, and Dell pitched it at frequent travellers. Floppy and optical drives were external. The L400 replaced it in 2000. Its batteries are long obsolete and the hard drive should be assumed to be near the end of its life.
