Background

About the Dell Latitude LM

Sold 1996–1997

The Dell Latitude LM dates from the mid-1990s, when Dell sold it as the more affordable Pentium laptop beneath the Latitude XPi and XPi CD. Model codes followed Dell's convention of the time, a letter and number for the processor and letters for the screen, so a code such as P133ST indicates a 133 MHz Pentium and an SVGA active-matrix display.

It was aimed at business buyers who wanted a capable Pentium portable without the cost of the flagship line, and it was superseded by the slimmer Latitude CP at the end of 1997. Thirty years on, an LM is a collector's item: the original battery will be dead, and hard drives and floppy mechanisms of this age are frequently unreliable.
