Background

About the Dell Latitude CPi

Sold 1998–1999

Sold from 1998, the Dell Latitude CPi put Intel's mobile Pentium II into the slim chassis introduced the previous year with the Pentium-based Latitude CP. Processor speeds started at 233 MHz and rose from there, and screens followed the CP pattern of 12.1-inch SVGA or 13.3-inch XGA panels, the choice being shown by the letters at the end of each model code.

It was Dell's mainstream corporate laptop of its day and kept the modular bay, batteries and docking options of the CP, which let companies carry accessories across generations. Refreshed CPi A and CPi R versions followed in 1999. Machines of this age commonly have dead batteries, failing hard drives and brittle casing plastics.
