Background

About the Dell Latitude C Series

Sold 2000–2003

The Dell Latitude C Series was Dell's business laptop family at the turn of the millennium, spanning Pentium III to Pentium 4-M processors. The core models appeared from 2000: the 14.1-inch C600 and its successors the C610 and C640, the lower-cost C500, C510 and C540, the 15-inch C800, C810 and C840, and the 12.1-inch C400 ultraportable. The D series replaced the range in 2003.

Its selling point was commonality. Batteries, drive modules and docking stations were largely shared across the family, which suited company fleets. The machines had a reputation for robustness, and several were also sold as Inspiron models. All are now over twenty years old, with dead batteries and ageing hard drives the norm.
