Background

About the Dell Latitude CP

Sold 1997–1998

The Dell Latitude CP was announced in early November 1997 as a slimmer, lighter rethink of Dell's corporate laptops. About 1.5 inches thick and weighing roughly 5.3 to 5.8 pounds depending on configuration, it was around an inch thinner and two pounds lighter than the models it replaced. It used 166 or 233 MHz Pentium processors with either a 12.1-inch SVGA or a 13.3-inch XGA active-matrix screen.

Dell aimed it at large business accounts that wanted a stable, long-lived platform, in contrast to the Inspiron line launched weeks earlier for power users. The CP chassis went on to carry the Pentium II CPi and the later CPt and CPx. Any surviving example will have an exhausted battery and a small, elderly hard drive.
