Background

About the Dell Inspiron E1705

Sold 2006–2007

Dell sold the Inspiron 9400 in North America as the Inspiron E1705. Introduced in 2006, it was the 17-inch widescreen flagship of the Inspiron line, using Core Duo and later Core 2 Duo processors. Base models had Intel GMA 950 or ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics, while higher configurations could be specified with considerably faster graphics for games.

The chassis and much of the hardware are shared with the XPS M1710 and the Precision M90 mobile workstation. It was a heavy desktop replacement, not a travel machine. Its batteries were covered by the 2006 recall, and on surviving units the fans, hinges and hard drive deserve checking.
