Background

About the Dell Inspiron 9300

Sold 2005–2006

The Dell Inspiron 9300 replaced the 9200 in 2005 as Dell's 17-inch widescreen home laptop. It moved to Intel's Sonoma generation of the Pentium M platform, with an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 in base models and faster NVIDIA graphics as an option, and weighed about 8.6 lb, a little under 4 kg. The XPS Gen 2 gaming laptop was built on the same chassis.

It was popular as a family desktop replacement and for gaming at a lower price than the XPS. The best-known fault is the 17-inch LCD developing vertical coloured lines, usually after two to four years. Batteries from this model were also part of the August 2006 recall.
