Background

About the Dell Inspiron 9400

Sold 2006–2007

The Dell Inspiron 9400 was the 2006 successor to the Inspiron 9300 and the largest laptop in Dell's home range at the time. It kept a 17-inch widescreen display but switched to Intel Core Duo dual-core processors, later Core 2 Duo, with Intel integrated graphics or an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 in base versions and stronger options above.

In North America it was sold as the Inspiron E1705. It shares its hardware and chassis with the XPS M1710 gaming laptop and the Precision M90 workstation. It was bought mainly as a desktop replacement for media and games. Batteries were included in the 2006 recall, and worn hinges and failing hard drives are common now.
