Background

About the Dell Inspiron E1405

Sold 2006–2007

Inspiron E1405 was the name Dell used in North America for the laptop sold elsewhere as the Inspiron 640m. Launched in 2006, it is a 14.1-inch widescreen model with Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processors, the Intel 945GM chipset and GMA 950 integrated graphics. The screen came in 1280 by 800 form or as a 1440 by 900 glossy panel.

Dell used E-prefixed numbers for its American consumer laptops that year. It was the portable choice in the line-up, lighter than the 15.4-inch E1505. As a rebadged 640m it uses the same parts. Typical problems on these now-elderly machines are failed batteries and mechanical hard drives.
