Background

About the Dell Inspiron 8500

Introduced 2003

The Dell Inspiron 8500, released in 2003, brought a new chassis and a 15.4-inch widescreen display to Dell's high-end consumer line, replacing the 4:3 Inspiron 8200. The top panel option ran at 1920 by 1200. It kept the Mobile Pentium 4-M processor, with a choice of ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 or NVIDIA GeForce4 Go graphics.

The design was notably thinner than the outgoing model and set the pattern for the Pentium M-based Inspiron 8600 and the Latitude D800 that used the same body. It was sold to home users for films, games and general desktop replacement duty. Its batteries fell within Dell's 2006 recall.
