About the Dell Inspiron 8600

Sold 2003–2005

Dell's Inspiron 8600 followed the 8500 during 2003, keeping that model's 15.4-inch widescreen body but replacing the Pentium 4-M with Intel's cooler, more efficient Pentium M. Battery life improved markedly as a result. Graphics options over its life included NVIDIA GeForce4 Go and GeForce FX Go chips and the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, and the best screen ran at 1920 by 1200.

It is the consumer counterpart of the Latitude D800 and remained Dell's premium 15.4-inch home laptop until the Inspiron 6000 and 9300 generation of 2005. Original batteries were covered by the August 2006 recall. Age-related wear to hinges, hard drives and display backlights is common.
