Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN FJ Series

Sold 2005–2006

The Sony VAIO VGN FJ Series was a 14.1-inch widescreen notebook sold from 2005 into 2006, positioned as a smaller and lighter companion to the 15.4-inch FS. It was based on Intel Pentium M processors on the Centrino platform with integrated graphics, and it was offered in a few colour finishes at a time when most notebooks were silver or black.

Its buyers were mainly students and home users wanting something easier to carry than a full-size machine. Sony's later 14.1-inch colour models, the CR and CS, filled a similar role. An FJ today will usually need a new battery, and its IDE hard drive is a likely failure point.
