Background

About the Sony VAIO VGN FS Series

Sold 2005–2006

Introduced at the start of 2005, the Sony VAIO VGN FS Series was the mainstream 15.4-inch widescreen VAIO of its day. It used Intel Pentium M processors on the second-generation Centrino platform, with Intel integrated graphics on basic models and NVIDIA GeForce Go graphics further up, and it was relatively light for a notebook with a screen of that size.

The FS was aimed squarely at home and small office buyers, and it was followed in 2006 by the dual-core VGN FE. Survivors are about two decades old, with IDE hard drives, exhausted batteries and plastics that have become brittle.
