Background

About the Apple MacBook Pro 15" MA896

Sold 2007–2008

Sold between June 2007 and February 2008, the Apple MacBook Pro 15" MA896 is the 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo version of the Santa Rosa 15-inch MacBook Pro (A1226). It sat above the 2.2 GHz MA895 and differed mainly in its faster processor and in having 256 MB rather than 128 MB of memory for the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics.

Both share the LED-backlit 15.4-inch screen new to this generation and the original aluminium case with its removable battery. A 2.6 GHz processor became a build-to-order option in November 2007. The 8600M GT is a known point of failure on all of these machines; Apple acknowledged the defect and ran an extended repair programme for it, which has long since closed.
