Background

About the Dell Studio XPS 1647

Introduced 2010

The final Studio XPS 16, Dell Studio XPS 1647 arrived in 2010 with Intel's dual-core Core i5 and Core i7 processors of the first Core generation. These ran cooler and drew less power than the quad-core chips in the 1645, which suited the slim 16-inch chassis better. Graphics were an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 or the newer HD 5730, each with 1 GB.

The leather-accented lid, edge-to-edge glass and optional RGB LED 1920 x 1080 display continued unchanged, so it remained a favourite for photo editing. In October 2010 Dell replaced it with the XPS 15, dropping the Studio prefix. Ageing batteries and heat-hardened thermal paste are the usual concerns now.
