About the Dell Studio XPS 1340

Sold 2009–2010

Unveiled at CES in January 2009, the Dell Studio XPS 1340 was sold as the Studio XPS 13 and succeeded the XPS M1330 as Dell's premium 13-inch laptop. It was aimed at buyers who wanted a compact machine with more power and finish than an Inspiron, and was marked out by a leather strip across the lid, a backlit keyboard and a slot-loading optical drive.

It used Core 2 Duo processors on an NVIDIA chipset, with GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and an optional second graphics chip. Heat is the well-documented weakness: owners widely reported high temperatures around the vent and graphics hardware, spreading to the palm rest and the area below the screen. It stayed on sale into 2010.
