About the Dell Latitude E4200

Sold 2008–2010

Launched in 2008 as the smallest member of the new E series, the Dell Latitude E4200 took over from the D430. It is a 12.1-inch widescreen ultraportable using low-voltage Core 2 Duo processors, and it was sold with solid-state storage and no hard disk option, which was still unusual at the time and helped bring the starting weight down to around a kilogram.

There is no internal optical drive; one can be attached externally or through a media base. Alongside it Dell offered the slightly larger 13.3-inch E4300 for people who wanted more performance. Early solid-state drives of this period are small and can be slow by modern standards, and the original battery will be well past its useful life.
