Background

About the Dell Latitude D820

Sold 2006–2007

The Dell Latitude D820 launched in March 2006 with the D620 and was the 15.4-inch widescreen model of the first dual-core Latitude generation. Compared with the D810 it added an ExpressCard slot and stereo speakers, and it shared its hardware with the Precision M65 workstation.

It was the choice for users who wanted more screen area and stronger graphics than the 14.1-inch D620 offered while keeping the same docks and bay modules. Versions with NVIDIA graphics belong to the group affected by that manufacturer's overheating and solder-cracking problem, which shows up as a dead or distorted display and normally means a motherboard replacement. The D830 succeeded it in 2007.
