Background

About the Dell Latitude D Series

Sold 2003–2008

The Dell Latitude D Series was Dell's business laptop family from 2003 until the E series replaced it in 2008. It opened on 12 March 2003 with the 14.1-inch D600 and the widescreen D800, timed to Intel's Pentium M launch, and ran through four generations ending with the D430, D530, D630 and D830.

The number shows the class: D4xx ultraportables, D5xx entry-level models, D6xx mainstream 14-inch machines and D8xx 15.4-inch desktop replacements. All shared the D-Family docking connector and the D/Bay system of interchangeable drives and second batteries. Well-documented problems include the 2006 recall of batteries containing Sony-made cells and failures of the NVIDIA graphics chips fitted to some D620, D630, D820 and D830 boards.
