Background

About the Dell Latitude D531

Sold 2007–2008

The Dell Latitude D531 was the AMD-powered entry in the final D-series generation of 2007 and the cheapest Latitude of its day. Where the Intel-based D530 kept a 4:3 screen, the D531 used a widescreen panel, and it retained a magnesium alloy chassis and a SATA hard drive interface in spite of its price.

It gave businesses and schools a way into the Latitude family, with its docking stations and D/Bay modules, on AMD mobile processors, at a time when almost all corporate laptops were Intel-based. Dell's E series replaced the whole D5xx line in 2008. The D531 has no single notorious fault, and a worn battery or failing hard drive is the usual complaint.
