Background

About the Dell Latitude D505

Sold 2004–2005

The Dell Latitude D505 took over from the D500 in 2004 as the lower-cost model in the D family, beneath the D600. It was a Pentium M-era machine with a standard-aspect screen and, like the rest of the D5xx line, was sold to schools, public bodies and businesses that wanted Latitude docking and D/Bay modules at a keener price than the mainstream 14-inch model.

Dell replaced it in 2005 with the D510, which moved to Intel's next platform. The D505 is one of the models listed in Dell's 2006 recall of batteries built with Sony cells. Beyond that, its problems today are those of age: the battery, the mechanical hard drive and the lamp behind the screen.
