Background

About the Dell Latitude D520

Sold 2006–2007

The Dell Latitude D520 was the 2006 entry-level member of the D family and the counterpart of the widescreen D620. It stayed with a traditional 4:3 screen, which many offices still preferred for documents, and it belongs to the generation in which Dell's business laptops moved to Intel Core processors.

It used the same docking stations and D/Bay modules as other D-series machines, which kept it popular with large fleets, and it was followed in 2007 by the D530, the last Latitude without a widescreen. The D520 appears in Dell's 2006 recall of batteries using Sony cells. Its other weaknesses now are the ordinary ones of a laptop this old: storage, battery and backlight.
