About the Dell Inspiron 640m

Sold 2006–2007

The Dell Inspiron 640m was launched in 2006 as the smaller companion to the 15.4-inch Inspiron 6400. It had a 14.1-inch widescreen display, offered at 1280 by 800 or 1440 by 900 pixels, with Intel Core Duo and later Core 2 Duo processors and Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics. Weight was around 2.4 to 2.5 kg.

It replaced the Pentium M-based Inspiron 630m and was marketed in North America under the name Inspiron E1405. Contemporary reviews rated it well for portability and ergonomics, less so for graphics performance. Common issues today are worn batteries, mechanical hard drive failure and general wear on a machine approaching twenty years old.
