About the Dell Inspiron 500m

Sold 2003–2004

Dell announced the Inspiron 500m in April 2003 as a lower-priced way into the new Pentium M platform, alongside the closely related Latitude D500 for business buyers. It paired Pentium M processors from 1.3 to 1.6 GHz with a 14.1-inch screen, offered at XGA or the finer SXGA+ resolution, in a body weighing roughly 2.5 kg.

It sat below the Inspiron 600m, which had a similar size but a dedicated graphics chip, and was aimed at home users and students who wanted long battery life from a thin-and-light machine. Batteries supplied with the model fell within Dell's large August 2006 recall, and any original pack is now long past use.
