Background

About the Dell Inspiron 1200

Sold 2005–2006

The Dell Inspiron 1200 was introduced in 2005 as an inexpensive home and student laptop, sold alongside the closely related Inspiron 2200. It had a 14.1-inch standard-aspect screen and used Intel Celeron M or Pentium M processors, a marked improvement in heat and battery life over the desktop-derived chips in the Inspiron 1100 series before it.

Specifications were basic, with integrated graphics and limited ports, and the design was replaced within about a year by widescreen models such as the Inspiron 1300. Typical problems today are those of any laptop of its age: exhausted batteries, slow or failing IDE hard drives, weak backlights and cracked plastics around the hinges.
