Background

About the Dell Inspiron 630m

Sold 2005–2006

The Dell Inspiron 630m appeared in late 2005 as a compact 14.1-inch widescreen laptop, sold alongside the near-identical XPS M140. It used late Pentium M processors with Intel GMA 900 integrated graphics and a 1280 by 800 glossy display, in a silver and white case weighing about 2.5 kg.

It was pitched at home users and students as a more portable alternative to the 15.4-inch Inspiron 6000, with an emphasis on film and music playback. Its life was short: the Core Duo-based Inspiron 640m replaced it during 2006. Reviews at the time criticised the dim, reflective screen. Worn batteries and ageing hard drives are now the main concerns.
