About the Dell Inspiron 3000

Sold 1997–1998

The Dell Inspiron 3000 of 1997 was the first laptop to carry the Inspiron name. It used Intel Pentium MMX processors at 166MHz, 200MHz or 233MHz and came with either a 12.1-inch SVGA or a 13.3-inch XGA screen, sold in versions coded M166ST, M200ST and M233XT.

It established Inspiron as Dell's line for individuals and small offices, separate from the corporate Latitude. Note that Dell reused the 3000 label much later as a series name for budget Inspirons, which are unrelated. An original 1997 machine is now a vintage computer: batteries, hard drives and screen backlights have usually failed and parts are scarce.
