Background

About the Dell Inspiron 4000

Sold 2000–2001

Dell released the Inspiron 4000 in 2000 as a thinner, lighter mainstream laptop. The Dell Inspiron 4000 is the consumer equivalent of the Latitude C600 family and shares its modular bay system, which accepts optical drives, a floppy drive or a second battery.

It was fitted with Intel Pentium III processors from 650MHz to 850MHz, or a 600MHz Celeron, and a 14.1-inch display at 1024 x 768 with a 1400 x 1050 option. It was followed in 2001 by the Inspiron 4100. Faults on these now relate to age: hinge wear, failed batteries and backlights, and failing hard drives.
