Background

About the Dell Inspiron 3700

Sold 1999–2000

The Dell Inspiron 3700 was the mainstream Inspiron of 1999, taking over from the Inspiron 3500 and preceding the Inspiron 3800 of 2000. It belonged to the thin-and-light middle of the range, below the heavier Inspiron 7000 and 7500 multimedia models, and used the Intel Celeron and Pentium mobile processors current at that time.

Buyers were home users, students and small firms wanting an all-round portable with a large screen for its day. More than twenty-five years on, it is a period piece. Common conditions include batteries that will not charge, a failing backlight or inverter, brittle plastics and worn-out hard drives.
