About the Dell Inspiron 1720

Sold 2007–2008

The Dell Inspiron 1720 was the 17-inch desktop-replacement model in Dell's June 2007 Inspiron range, the largest of the family that also included the 1420 and 1520. It shares design features with the Vostro 1700 and XPS M1730 of the same period and has room for two hard drives.

It used Intel Core 2 Duo processors and was available with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS or 8600M GT graphics. Those graphics chips come from the series affected by NVIDIA's 2007-2008 packaging fault, so display failure is a recognised risk. The machine is large and heavy, and its batteries offered limited running time even when new.
