Background

About the Dell Latitude C500

Sold 2000–2001

Dell's Latitude C500 was the economy model of the early C family, launched in 2000 beside the Latitude C600. It used the same general chassis and accessories as that machine but was fitted with Intel Celeron processors and a more basic specification, giving cost-conscious businesses and schools a way into the Latitude range.

Its successors were the C510 and then the C540. Because it shares the C-family design, bay modules and docking stations from other models fit. It is among the oldest Latitudes likely to be encountered, at around a quarter of a century old, and is typically found with a dead battery, a worn hard drive and a dim screen backlight.
