Background

About the Dell Latitude 2100

Sold 2009–2010

The Dell Latitude 2100, introduced in 2009, was a netbook-class laptop designed specifically for schools. It had a 10.1-inch screen, optionally touch-sensitive, an Intel Atom N270 processor and a rubberised outer shell intended to survive classroom handling. Storage was either a small solid-state drive or a conventional hard disk, and it shipped with Windows XP, Vista or Ubuntu.

Dell sold it in several bright colours, and a light on the lid showed teachers when a pupil's machine was using the network. It began the Latitude 2100 series, continued by the 2110 and 2120. With a single memory slot limited to 2 GB it is very slow today, and batteries and keyboards are the parts most often needing replacement.
