About the Dell Inspiron 8000

Sold 2000–2001

Dell released the Inspiron 8000 in 2000 as its flagship consumer laptop, taking over from the Inspiron 7500 and again sold as a mobile desktop. It shared its design with the business Latitude C800 and used mobile Pentium III processors, a 15-inch screen available at high resolutions, and some of the strongest laptop graphics then available, first from ATI and later NVIDIA's GeForce2 Go.

The chassis had a fixed optical drive plus a modular bay, and it became the basis for the Inspiron 8100 and 8200 that followed. These are heavy machines by modern standards, and examples still running will usually need a new battery and hard drive.
