About the Dell Inspiron 1420

Sold 2007–2008

Launched in June 2007 with the larger Inspiron 1520 and 1720, the Dell Inspiron 1420 was the 14.1-inch member of a redesigned consumer range notable for its choice of eight lid colours. It used Intel's Santa Rosa generation Core 2 Duo processors and could be ordered with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics in place of the integrated chip.

That graphics option is the model's known weakness. The 8400M was among the NVIDIA parts affected by the packaging defect of 2007-2008, and Dell listed the Inspiron 1420 among the laptops given a revised fan profile and extended warranty cover. Symptoms are a blank screen, lines or failure to start.
