Background

About the Apple MacBook Pro 17" MA611

Sold 2006–2007

The Apple MacBook Pro 17" MA611 is the Late 2006 17-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It went on sale on 24 October 2006, replacing the Core Duo original after only six months, and was itself replaced on 5 June 2007.

The move to the 64-bit Core 2 Duo was the main change; the aluminium case, 1680 by 1050 display and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics carried over, and the model number became A1212. Because it predates the switch to NVIDIA graphics in mid 2007, it is not subject to the GeForce 8600M GT failures of later 17-inch machines. Age is its main enemy now: fluorescent display backlights dim, batteries lose capacity and the original hard drives wear out.
