Background

About the Dell Studio 1557

Sold 2009–2010

Dell Studio 1557 brought Intel's first quad-core Core i7 mobile processors to the Studio 15 when Dell added them to the range in September 2009. Externally it matched the Core 2 based 1555, but inside it had a new platform with DDR3 memory running at 1066 or 1333 MHz, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 512 MB was standard, with no integrated-graphics version.

That made it one of the more affordable routes to a Core i7 laptop at the time, and it was bought for video editing and gaming as well as general home use. The combination of a hot-running quad-core chip and a hard-to-clean cooling assembly means overheating under 3D load is the fault most often linked to this model.
